Jinshan Temple is Fuzhou’s only ancient riverine temple, standing alone on a tiny islet in the middle of the Min River. Founded in the Song Dynasty nearly a thousand years ago, it was built closely around a small rocky hill and an ancient Song pagoda.
Though petite in scale, it features a distinctive floating appearance: the entire temple seems to drift on water when the river tide rises.
A favored retreat for literati across dynasties to admire river scenery and compose poems, it is Fuzhou’s most recognizable thousand-year waterfront cultural landmark.
