Golden Rooster Nest, Shouning

Along the highway linking Nanyang Town and Xietan Town in Shouning County stands Phoenix Mountain, named for its lone peak shaped like a golden rooster, known locally as Golden Rooster Summit. Beneath the summit lies a small grotto dubbed Golden Rooster Nest. 

Local folklore says if you press your ear to the stone wall, you will hear chirps resembling a rooster’s crow. The surrounding mountains feature towering columnar rock stacks and jagged exotic peaks, blending marvelous natural formations with centuries-old folk legends. 

The scenery shifts distinctly through the seasons: azaleas bloom in winter, cool streams offer summer retreats, hiking thrills await in autumn, and snow blankets the peaks in winter. It is a rare scenic spot in Shouning that perfectly integrates natural landscapes and human folklore. (Photo by Miao Chun)
