As the largest and highest-ranking City God Temple remaining in Fuzhou, it was first erected in the Later Tang Dynasty of the Five Dynasties and underwent multiple large-scale renovations throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties, retaining its original wooden structural layout to this day.
Exquisite traditional wood carvings and painted decorations adorn its beams and bracket sets. Serving as the core inheritance site for Fuzhou’s City God worship, it still hosts full folk activities including temple fairs and spring & autumn sacrificial rituals.
Preserving the age-old folk beliefs and mundane memories of old Fuzhou, it stands as a vital carrier of the ancient city’s folk culture.
