Located in an ancient Lin clan village in Luoyuan, the Forest of Flagpoles boasts dozens of stone flagpoles dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, erected by clansmen who passed imperial examinations and took official positions.
Carved from single stone blocks, each pole bears clear inscriptions recording academic achievements and construction years, topped with auspicious beast carvings. Neatly lined along village lanes, they form a spectacular sight.
Serving as tangible proof of eastern Fujian’s thousand-year farming-and-scholarship culture, they vividly reflect the clan’s profound tradition of revering knowledge and education.
