Minqing County is in eastern Fujian Province, northwest of Fuzhou, along the lower reaches of the Min River. The area is mostly mountainous, with rolling hills and terraces. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, so forests are widespread. Common trees include pine, fir, and camphor, and the wood used in Minqing’s traditional houses comes from these trees.
The local soil is red soil, which is highly workable and ideal for building houses. Granite and mountain stones are also easy to find and were essential materials for construction in the past.
Liangheng Residence is located in Bandong Town, Minqing County. The building has a rectangular layout and covers an area of 2,266 square meters. It is built with a combination of earth, wood, and stone, with a well-planned, symmetrical design and clear hierarchy. Its structures for fire and flood prevention are carefully designed, giving the building a grand and imposing appearance.
