Chengtian Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple in southern Fujian, is located in the center of Quanzhou, on the east side of Nanjun Lane, opposite Chengtian Lane. It was originally named Nanchan Temple and was given the name“Chengtian Temple”in 1007 during the Northern Song Dynasty. Its size is second only to Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou.
Inside the temple are seven stone pagodas and stone sutra pillars from the Song Dynasty. The sutra pillars are tall and well-proportioned, with simple yet powerful carvings that show the great skill of ancient craftsmen.
In recent years, lay Buddhists and monks from China and abroad have come to Chengtian Temple to offer incense. With donations from believers, the temple has been restored according to its original scale and has gradually regained its historic appearance. Today, the temple enjoys a lively and flourishing atmosphere.
