The Ryukyu Hall, originally called Rouyuan Posthouse, is located at No. 21 Guanhou Street in Taijiang District, Fuzhou, Fujian Province. It was first built in 1472 during the Ming Dynasty. The building that stands today is a Qing-style hall restored in 1992, covering 672.7 square meters.
The hall was originally used to receive tribute missions from the Ryukyu Kingdom and to carry out trade. Local people called it the “Ryukyu Hall.”
After the 1992 renovation, it became a Fuzhou foreign friendship history museum, displaying Ryukyu tombstones and other cultural relics. It shows Fuzhou’s important role as a hub on the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
