Huayan Temple on Ningde’s Zhiti Mountain was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty, a famous millennial Buddhist shrine hidden deep in prime mountain forests, featuring white-walled Zen courtyards and wooden main halls encircled by mountain brooks, dotted with ancient pines and green bamboo.
The temple preserves Song iron Buddha statues, Ming bronze lamps and cliff steles from successive dynasties. Secluded by mountains from outside noise, temple bells echo through valleys mixed with faint fragrance of plants and incense.
