Huotong Ancient Town, Ningde

Huotong Ancient Town in Ningde is eastern Fujian’s best-preserved millennial water town, threaded by the gentle Huotong Stream lined with intact Ming and Qing rammed-earth houses, Huang Clan Ancestral Hall, Wenchang Pavilion and ancient docks. 

It preserves the complete Huang Ju ancient irrigation waterworks, with thousand-year banyans rooted along the riverbank, and intangible heritage including hand-stretched noodles, paper-cutting and puppet shows passed down through generations. 

Bluestone streets stretch along clear waters, where local residents wash clothes and fish, forming authentic rural folk scenes. Secluded from crowded scenic spots, its quiet alleys deliver relaxing peace. Wandering the streets lets visitors explore eastern Fujian’s farming water conservancy and clan culture, with mountains and rivers complementing ancient architecture, and mountain breezes calming restlessness for leisurely restorative walks.
