Jinhu Scenic Area is located in Taining County, on the southern side of the Dashaling Mountains in the middle of the Wuyi Mountain range, in northwestern Fujian Province. It is named “Jinhu” (Golden Lake) because gold was once found in the area.
The scenic area covers about 140 square kilometers, including 36 square kilometers of water. It is known for its vast lake and Danxia landforms, and is one of the few places in China where red Danxia cliffs and large lake waters are combined.
Visitors explore Jinhu Scenic Area by boat. The tour takes about four hours and includes three stops on land. The contemporary Chinese scholar Cai Shangsi praised it as “the finest lake-and-mountain scenery in the world.”
