Chaotian Gate

Located in Fengze District, Quanzhou, Chaotian Gate is one of the city's seven ancient gates. This historic gateway, with its grey walls, traditional blue-green tiles, and distinctive hip-and-gable roof, possesses an imposing yet wonderfully unadorned charm. On festive occasions, the area surrounding Chaotian Gate springs to life with folk art displays, most notably stilt-walking performances. Performers, arrayed in vibrant opera costumes and wearing thick, colourful makeup, skilfully parade on stilts, singing and dancing as they go.
