Quanzhou's Donghu Park occupies the historical site of “Fragrant Lotuses of Donghu,” one of ancient Quanzhou's famed “Eight Great Scenic Spots.” As far back as the Tang Dynasty, this area boasted a lake sprawling over 40 qing (an ancient unit of area), graced by the Donghu Pavilion and the Er'gong Pavilion.
Donghu itself gained renown as it was a place frequented by illustrious Tang Dynasty literary figures such as Jiang Gongfu, Han Yu, and Ouyang Zhan.
