Chongmiao Baosheng Jianlao Pagoda is located on the eastern slope of Wushi Mountain in Gulou District, Fuzhou, Fujian Province.
The pagoda is built of granite. After long-term weathering, the stone turned dark, so it is commonly called the “Black Pagoda.”
The pagoda has an octagonal shape, seven tiers, and is about 35 meters high, all built with granite.
The relief Buddha statues and stone inscriptions on the pagoda are valuable materials for studying the history and art of the Min Kingdom during the Five Dynasties period.
The Black Pagoda holds an important place in the history of Fujian architecture.
Starting from its construction, many stone bridges and stone pagodas were built across Fujian, marking a major peak in the region’s architectural development.
