"Worshiping Tiangong" is an important Spring Festival custom in the Minnan region of Fujian Province, also known as "Paying Homage to the Heavenly Grandfather" or "Offering Sacrifices to the Heavenly Grandfather." The Tiangong (Heavenly Grandfather) refers to the Jade Emperor, who is regarded as the supreme deity.
The ceremony of Worshiping Tiangong is usually held on the ninth day of the first lunar month (some observe it on the evening of the eighth day; nowadays, many people have shifted it to the early morning of the first day). Every household prepares abundant offerings to pray for peace, smoothness, and a bountiful harvest in the new year, expressing gratitude for Tiangong's protection over the past year and seeking good fortune for the coming year.
