COLOMBO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday proposed to establish an international university on climate change in the country with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in order to enable students to engage in educational activities.

A statement released by the President's Media Division said Wickremesinghe made the proposal during a meeting with President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa at the Asian Development Bank Headquarters in Manila on Friday morning.

On Thursday, the Sri Lankan government announced that it will launch a national program in implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene said the country will seek international assistance to carry out this national program as the government wants to minimize the effect of climate change in the country and prepare to face future related challenges.
