WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi said on Monday afternoon that water pressure has returned in the state's capital Jackson.

"The tanks are full or filling," Reeves wrote in a statement posted on Twitter. "There are currently zero water tanks at low levels."

"All of Jackson should now have pressure and most are now experiencing normal pressure," the city authorities said in an update.

Jackson also asked residents who are experiencing discolored water or no pressure to report it while a boil water notice remains in effect.

Flooding of the Pearl River, which runs in Mississippi and Louisiana, created problems with treating water at the O.B. Curtis water plant in Jackson late last month.

Roughly 180,000 residents in Jackson and its surrounding areas -- most of them African Americans -- were left with no reliable drinking water.
