KABUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Police have collected more than 4,300 pieces of different kinds of weapons and a huge quantity of ammunitions during operations over the past year, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Monday.

"Our police have collected 4,365 pieces of different kinds of weapons, 291,331 rounds of bullets, 735 boxes of ammunitions, 515 pieces of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines from irresponsible individuals during the operations over the past year," Bakhtar quoted Interior Ministry officials as saying.

Police have also discovered and sized 631 government-owned vehicles used by individuals illegally, the report added.

During the period, security forces killed 243 armed opponents and injured 72 others, and 237 people were arrested.

During the operations, 314 armed opponents have surrendered to security forces.

The achievement was attributed to 1,551 cleanup operations launched over the past year to stabilize security situation in the country.

The Taliban-led caretaker administration has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside security apparatus as part of efforts to ensure durable peace and security in the war-torn country.
