WASHINGTON, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A fire occurred at a chemical plant in the southeastern U.S. state of Georgia on Saturday morning and was extinguished later with no injuries reported, local authorities said.
Photos posted on Twitter show billows of dark smoke rising into the sky at the scene of the fire.
Located in Brunswick, Georgia, the Pinova plant manufactures rosin and polyterpene resin, according to the company's official website.
The fire started in the morning and was contained at around 10 a.m. local time (1400 GMT) but then it reignited at around 3 p.m.(1900 GMT), the Glynn County Board of Commissioners said on Facebook.
Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson declared a state of emergency and a shelter-in-place order for the whole city of Brunswick at 6 p.m. (2200 GMT) Saturday, according to a declaration issued by the city.
The latest update by the Glynn County Board of Commissioners was issued at 10:08 p.m. (0208 GMT Sunday) and said the fire was put out, and shelter-in-place and evacuation orders for residents living near the facility were lifted.
There have been no injuries reported so far, the board said. It was yet unclear how the fire started or what was burning.
