DAR ES SALAAM, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian authorities on Wednesday announced vacancies for 21,200 health workers and teachers with a view to filling the shortage of manpower existing in the health and education sectors.

Angellah Kairuki, minister of state in the President's Office responsible for regional administration and local governments, said President Samia Suluhu Hassan has authorized the employment of the new health workers and teachers.

Kairuki told a news conference in the capital Dodoma that under the arrangement, 13,130 primary school teachers will be employed to fill the shortage of teachers facing public primary schools across the country.

She also said 8,070 health workers will be recruited and dispatched to district hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries across the country that are in dire need of health personnel.

The employment process opened on Wednesday and will be closed on April 25, she said, adding that punitive measures will be taken against officials that will be implicated in any malpractices in the recruitment process.

Kairuki said qualified Tanzanians can apply through the ministry's website employment portal, adding that the applicants should be only those who graduated from learning institutions recognized by the government.
